Walleye Bite Steady, Panfish Active Across Bays
Leech Lake - Chisago, MN
Fishing on Leech Lake continues to be productive as summer patterns hold strong. The walleye bite has remained steady, especially during early mornings and evenings. Anglers are having success using live bait rigs with leeches and nightcrawlers, particularly along wind-blown points, main lake humps, and edges of deeper weed lines in 12–18 feet of water. Trolling crankbaits over deeper flats during low-light hours has also produced quality fish.
Panfish action has picked up in the shallower bays. Bluegill and crappie are holding near cabbage beds in 6–10 feet, and small jigs tipped with plastics or wax worms are getting the job done. Northern pike are chasing spinnerbaits and jerkbaits along weed edges, while a few largemouth bass have been spotted near docks and inside weed pockets.
The bite should continue to improve with stable weather. For those looking for a memorable day on the water, now’s a great time to book a trip with one of the local Leech Lake fishing guides and get in on the action. Walleye, panfish, and pike are all cooperating—so grab your gear and let’s fish!
